You’re in charge of your vagina. Not the doctors.

Do you know how many doctors a women sees before she is diagnosed with pelvic pain? Anywhere from three to twelve.

What????? Yes, you read me right…… they visit tons of doctors (yes OBGYN’s) that have no clue what is causing their vagina to burn, cramp and spasm. I personally diagnosed myself. After spending years at the doctors with no answers and my love life literally non-existent due to the stabbing pain, I was on a mission to find a name for this horrendous condition that left me feeling hopeless.

You almost can’t fault the doctors for not being educated on these pelvic pain conditions. They were NEVER taught about Vulvodynia, Vaginismus, Dyspareunia and Vulvar Vestibulitus. Most of them have been doing pap smears and delivering babies for decades.

When you actually DO find someone that is a “Pelvic Pain” specialist, don’t get to excited. The one I went to did not even examine me. What if I had visual vulvar cancer? Or something else that you could visually see that could be contributing to my pain? He just tried to offer me surgery (a vestibulectomy) and put me on a anti-depressant.

Um. No.

I was out of their so quick. After doing much research, all I needed was magnetic vaginal dilation that literally had no side effects.

Why I am telling you this is because all doctors have their own opinions about the treatment of pelvic pain. They can range from Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy to a Hysterectomy. Many women with pelvic pain or Interstitial Cystitis have hysterectomies because they do not have a proper diagnosis. Give your uterus a break ladies. It is not always the bad guy.  You to get as many treatments plans as you feel comfortable with, then make a decision on how YOU want to proceed.

YOU are in charge of your own vagina.
